Terms of Use

Ruckbrain Terms of Use

Effective November 1, 2026

⚠ Reference information only, not medical advice. Ruckbrain is an offline library and an AI search assistant. It is not a doctor, medic or emergency service, and it can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. In an emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number). For poisoning, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Never eat any plant or mushroom, or take any medicine, based on Ruckbrain alone. Use at your own risk.

1. Who we are

Ruckbrain is an offline survival and preparedness reference library with an AI search assistant, sold on a drive. It is based in San Diego, California. Contact: [email protected].

2. Accepting these terms

By using this website, joining the waitlist, or buying or using a Ruckbrain product, you agree to these terms. You must be 18 or older. At launch, Ruckbrain is sold and shipped only in the United States.

3. What the product is

Ruckbrain contains reference materials from third parties (for example, U.S. military and government manuals, Wikipedia and other openly licensed wikis, and community Q&A), offline maps, and an AI search assistant that summarizes those materials and cites them. Content may be outdated, and the AI can be wrong. It is not medical advice. In an emergency, call 911.

4. Orders, pricing, shipping and returns

We are not taking orders yet. Prices, sales tax, shipping (U.S. only at launch), risk of loss, the returns and refund window, and how we handle defective drives will be published here and at checkout before sales open.

5. Hardware warranty

The warranty for the physical drive (if any) will be described in writing at checkout and in the box. It is separate from the "no warranty" terms for the content and software below.

6. Our materials and third-party licenses

Ruckbrain's own materials (the app interface, written guides and branding) are licensed to you for personal use with the product.

Third-party content and open-source software on the drive stay under their own licenses, listed in the Credits & Licenses file on the drive. Open-source components are licensed to you under their own licenses, including the GNU General Public License (GPL), and nothing in these terms restricts your rights under those licenses, including your right to copy, modify and share that software and to get its source code. Creative Commons content (for example CC BY-SA) remains under that license.

7. Acceptable use

Use Ruckbrain lawfully. Follow all laws, including FCC radio licensing rules (GMRS and amateur radio require licenses). Do not use it for unsafe or illegal activities.

8. Safety notice, disclaimers and limits

Not medical, legal or professional advice. Ruckbrain contains general reference materials from third parties (for example, U.S. military and government manuals, Wikipedia and other wikis, and community Q&A) and an AI assistant that summarizes them. Ruckbrain does not provide medical care, diagnosis or treatment, and it does not create a doctor–patient or other professional relationship. Content may be outdated (some manuals are decades old), may reflect military or non-U.S. practices, and may conflict with current guidelines.

Emergencies. If you or someone else may be in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first. Get trained in first aid and CPR from a recognized provider. Ruckbrain is a supplement to training, not a substitute.

AI answers. Answers are generated by an AI model from the books on the drive. AI can misread sources, mix up doses or invent details. Always open the cited page and check it yourself. Do not rely on AI answers for diagnosis, medication doses, wild-food identification, electrical or gas work, or any life-or-death decision when a qualified professional or emergency service can be reached.

Assumption of risk. Outdoor, survival, medical, food-preservation, water-treatment, electrical, mechanical, foraging, hunting, firearm-adjacent and radio activities are inherently risky. You choose whether and how to act on any information, and you assume all risks of doing so. Follow all laws, including FCC radio licensing rules.

No warranty. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ruckbrain and its content and software are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. (The physical drive's hardware warranty, if any, is described separately; see section 5.)

Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ruckbrain and its owner will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on content or AI answers. Its total liability for any claim relating to the product will not exceed the amount you paid for it. Some states, including California in certain cases, do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Third-party content and open-source software. Third-party content and software remain under their own licenses (see Credits & Licenses on the drive). Open-source components are licensed to you under their own licenses, including the GNU GPL, and nothing in these terms restricts your rights under those licenses. Ruckbrain is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation, Kiwix, Stack Exchange, Google, the U.S. Army, FEMA, CDC, bitchat or Meshtastic.

9. Indemnity

If you misuse Ruckbrain or break these terms and that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

10. Trademarks

Ruckbrain™ is our trademark. Other names and marks belong to their owners and are used only to describe what is on the drive. Meshtastic® is a registered trademark of Meshtastic LLC. Ruckbrain is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation, Kiwix, Stack Exchange, Google, the U.S. Army, FEMA, CDC, EPA, USDA, bitchat or Meshtastic.

11. Copyright concerns

If you believe something on this site or a Ruckbrain drive infringes your rights, email [email protected] with the details and we will review it promptly.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by California law. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, except where the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and changes will not apply retroactively to purchases already made. Questions: [email protected].
